Erin Kastberg

Erin is an experienced attorney, trusted advisor and general counsel who partners with her clients in practical problem-solving, risk assessment and process improvements. Her in-house experience spans both public and private, including advising the state’s largest public employer and higher education institution and building the first Office of Legal Affairs at a private university with responsibility for all legal issues, including labor and employment, contracts, student affairs, risk management and insurance, investigations, policy development, compliance, real estate, information security, privacy and board governance. She has led work groups and committees and served as an advisor to board and institutional committees on audit, enterprise risk management, threat assessment, criminal background checks, protection of minors, data governance, and pandemic planning, preparation and response.

Having served as an administrator, Erin understands the different pressures her client is experiencing, so she can approach each issue with an eye toward empathy and risk management. Her background in managing human resources, employee benefits and Title IX issues is particularly beneficial, and she maintains her SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) designation. Her practice includes a significant amount of labor and employment issues, including collective bargaining and teacher contract negotiations, administrator contracts, discrimination claims, family and medical leave, disabilities and accommodations, employment policies and handbooks, employment agreements, grievance administration, employee discipline and other human resources matters. Erin is also experienced in managing complex Title IX and harassment investigations and is a certified Title IX Coordinator through the National Association of College and University Attorneys.

Erin serves as an adjunct instructor at the University of Wisconsin Law School, earned an MBA from Bradley University and is a graduate of the University of Iowa College of Law where she was a member of the Iowa Law Review and the Moot Court Board.
