Our attorneys have decades of experience dealing with Wisconsin’s open meetings and public records laws. Our firm’s attorneys are regularly commissioned by one of several education professionals’ organizations to present programming or provide training in open meetings and public records law, including the Wisconsin Association of School District Administrators (WASDA), the Association of Wisconsin School Administrators (AWSA), the Wisconsin Association of School Superintendents Assistants (WASSA), and the Wisconsin Technical College District Boards Association (WTCDBA).
We are involved almost daily in formulating meeting notices for clients, evaluating proposed meeting notices, or evaluating claims that the district or college has violated a meeting notice requirement. We make certain that meeting notices satisfy the requirements of public records law and periodically train our clients in open meetings law compliance. We also review school board motions, minutes, and resolutions for meetings, and craft more complex resolutions for referendum elections, property acquisition, and other school board actions that so require.
We examine public records law issues on a daily basis and make certain that clients satisfy the legal requirements involved in responding to public records requests. We demystify public records compliance for clients, and guide them through mandatory procedures and assessments. We also prepare responses to public records requests on behalf of our clients and, sometimes, we partner with fellow administrators when our client just feels better having us involved.
